RUGBY Borough Council and Warwickshire Wildlife Trust are pleased to announce, ‘Nature in Focus: Rugby,’ on Sunday 20 July, from 10am to 2:30pm, at The Benn Hall. This follow-up event builds on the success of the ‘Climate Adaptation World Café’ held last November.

The ‘Nature in Focus: Rugby’ event will explore what we can do to protect nature and enhance biodiversity across the Rugby borough. Warwickshire Wildlife Trust emphasises the urgent need to not only slow the loss of wildlife but to reverse declines and restore biodiversity, acknowledging the link between a stable climate and thriving ecosystems.

Attendees will have the opportunity to gain insights from leading experts, engage in meaningful discussions, and contribute to action focused solutions to address the environmental crisis we face as a borough. Round table discussions will enable sharing of concerns, visions, and initiatives for ensuring a greener future within the borough and beyond.

Expert speakers include Tom Heap, Television and Radio Reporter from BBC's Countryfile and BBC Radio 4’s Costing the Earth and The Climate Show, and Ian Jelley, Director of Landscape Recovery at Warwickshire Wildlife Trust.

Cllr Alison Livesey, Chair of the Climate Emergency Working Group, said, “I first moved to Rugby 20 years ago. In June of that year the sky above my house was full of swifts, I haven’t seen one this year. It is clear nature is facing an existential crisis for nature, and I am pleased we have been able to hold this event so that residents and businesses can hear what they can do to help. You don’t need a lot of land or even a garden to make a difference. You can plant a window box or even just a pot at the front door to attract different species of insects, which, in turn support other species in the food chain.”

Cllr Sam Edwards, said, “This is an opportunity for local businesses and residents to come together to identify ways to protect local nature and biodiversity. Your voice is important for a greener Rugby, so I encourage as many people to attend as possible.”

This event is suitable for all residents, businesses and local community groups committed to environmental preservation and action.
